THE TITLE ‘GERMINAL’ COMES FROM LATIN 'GERMEN', MEANING 'SEED'.

THIS SCULPTURE IN SEEDPOD FORM REPRESENTS PROPAGATION: TO TRANSMIT FROM ONE GENERATION TO THE NEXT. TO TRAVEL THROUGH THE AIR. TO DISPERSE, RADIATE, SCATTER. TO GROW.

‘GERMINAL’ SITS AT THE INTERSECTION OF SIGNIFICANT EARLY WALKING TRACKS. IT IS A MEMORY OF THE PRECOLONIAL LANDSCAPE, BUT ALSO A SYMBOL FOR THE RADIATING GROWTH OF THE CITY.

EXECUTED IN GLEAMING STAINLESS STEEL IT EVOKES SOMETHING LOST AND PRECIOUS. A BROKEN FORM, TRUNCATED, BLOWN ABOUT, CONTAINING MEMORIES, REDOLENT.
